It is said that one glimpse at the golden stone and you will freeze. Kinda like the thing that happens when you look at Medusa. The only difference is that you don't turn into stone, but into ice. Golden ice. It is said that when you touch the ice with your thumb it will thaw, but the victim of the curse will lay on the wet floor lifeless. As to say you can't really escape that golden stone. It's just not beatable.
However, there is something that can beat it. That thing is talking. It may seem stupid that talking to a nonliving thing can defeat it, but then again that nonliving thing can kill.
Chapter 1: Why Was I The One?
I was sleeping in my room on the day of the invasion. It was cold and I had jumped out of bed to close the window. My feet lightly hit the ground and barely made a sound. It was so quiet I could here the steady beat of my heart pounding against my chest.
I was calm though. I didn't know what was happening outside those doors. The oak one with the rose pattern on each side. I didn't know that once I went for the window I would be entering a situation that isn't my own.
So I went for the window towards the right of the door and reached my hand for it. In an instant I felt blood dripping down my fingers.
I screamed. What else could I do? My forefinger had a deep cut in it. I was surprised that I couldn't feel pain though. I was surprised my finger hadn't already fell off and hit the ground. By the time my uncle reached me I was drinking water calmly watching white froth around the outside of the cut. I frothed and finally disappeared. Once it did, my finger was clean and healed. I flexed it and smiled.
"Glorak hidren!" he yelled in Florish, the language I had grown up with, ut never quite mastered.
"Um, English please" I said still eyeing the place where the cut was.
"Why did you scream?" he said in an accent often misunderstood for German.
"My finger. It was cut" I said.
I could see he didn't believe me.I tried to explain, but he just waved me off and went back to sleep. I sighed, but knew that whatever hit me wasn't aiming for my finger. I knew I had better watch out. I put on my favorite gloves and tucked myself back into bed. I looked outside my window and stared at the nearby planet. Earth. It looked closer today than it did on any other day. It looked almost broken.
