NOTE: i cant remember why i wrote this, but i did and i thought you guys might like it.
Over the summer I spent a lot of time at a sailing camp called Spars in St. Augustine. Most of the time there was very low wind and it was sort of boring but I still had fun because I was out on the water. But one day was different. It started out like a normal day. I got to the camp early so I could float in the river and chat with my friends. Once everyone got there we assembled the boats and packed our lunches.
There was no wind at all so we ended up hopping out of our boats and swam them part of the way. After we floated through the narrow harbor filled with boats, the wind started to gust. (That’s bad because the boom swings around a lot). Since we had a few inexperienced sailors with us, we landed on a little island on the intercoastal waterway to eat lunch.
While on the little island we went for a very interesting nature walk (nothing but crabs), ate lunch, and played with the funny little crabs on the island. After torturing the crabs, and pelting each other with the mud on the riverbed, we finally got back in our boats.
Almost as soon as I got my boat pushed into the water it capsized. The winds were that strong. I held it upright long enough to get in and away I went. I was easily going 20 Mph and tilting like crazy. My sail kept on dipping into the water. No matter how far I keeled the boat wouldn’t come to center. After doing a high speed capsize, I looked around. Most of the other kids were having trouble too.
Before I entered the harbor I capsized my boat on purpose to wait for an instructor to come and show the correct route through the harbor. As I waited, I noticed how dark it was getting (it was 1:00 at that time). There were these huge black clouds hovering over us. The clouds didn’t look like lightning, but they did look like trouble.
By now the instructors had gathered the stragglers and we made our way in. I don’t know what happened to everyone else because I had to jibe to avoid hitting another boat and got knocked off my boat! (Jibing is when your stern goes through the wind and the boom swings over your head hard.)
This is where it got crazy. I could barely get into my boat before getting blown away. After the wind died down a bit the worst possible thing happened. I was stuck on a sandbar. I couldn’t pull the boat off no matter what. I had to have a counselor to come pull me off. At this point we decided as a group that it would be safer to simply pull our boats along a sandbar. The wind eventually died down so we sailed the rest of the way back. We were so happy to be on land! We didn’t even complain about taking apart the boats.
I was so tired that once we got home, I fell straight asleep. That’s one trip none of us will ever forget.
The end.

GREAT!
great story, was very good! as a sailor myself, i took the the story very well! although i think capsizing is the best part of sailing
That seems like so much fun
That seems like so much fun and at the same time scary
