Lusia

A short story I composed 100% out of compound sentences for school. Enjoy! Comment please :)

Lusia

Lusia was angel, but she was not the winged kind. Lusia was a shadow, yet she walked in the light. She was a breeze in the trees and she was the sun in your hair. She never smiled nor did she ever frown. Lusia was angel, but she was not the winged kind.

Lusia saw a castle on the distant shore; the castle was a thing of forgotten fairy lore. She climbed into the boat and she looked fearfully into the deep water. She grabbed the oar and paddled; Lusia paddled for her life.

Row as she might the castle grew not larger and closer, but it grew farther and smaller. She paddled with all her might and she rowed with all her strength. For days she rowed; for weeks she paddled. With a cry of desperation she leapt from the boat, but she could not swim or float.

Down, Lusia sank; down under the surface did she wait. She was not struggling against the water's mighty rush, nor was she trying desperately to escape the current's strong grasp. She was sinking yet she was smiling. The sun was so lovely on the water above her; the fish were so merry swimming around her. Lusia closed her eyes in death, but a smile was spread across her face. Lusia was angel, but she was not the winged kind.
