Last Few Weeks of Winter

February is starting... sort of... to slowly creep to an end. And the weather is starting... sort of... to slowly get warmer. Most of us are totally ready for spring right now, so here's an article for you about 5 awesome things you can do in the next few weeks to get ready for it!

1. Run. No, really! Pull out a jacket and take your dog for a run around the neighborhood. If you haven't done it in awhile because you've been stuck inside, it'll feel refreshing and get you in more of a mood for Spring. Or even just race your siblings to the mailbox (woah, when did they get so fast?).

2. Bake! Once the weather gets warmer, a hot oven is not going to be fun. So take these couple weeks to dig out the brownie/cookie/cake mixes that are stashed at the back of your pantry, and bake them! Your friends or your neighbors will totally appreciate goodies that you make for them. Or have some friends over and experiment with a bunch of different mixes - try Cherrybrook Kitchen fudge brownies, gluten free (healthier!) and absolutely delicious.

3. Dig out your Spring clothes. Even if it's too chilly to wear them now, at least you'll be ready when it starts to get warmer! Try layering your floral or Spring-colored things with a long-sleeved tee or cardi. Also, you could take advantage of these last few weeks to wear your Winter stuff that you really love, cuz you'll soon be putting it away for next year.

4. Crochet a cuff. Chunky, fun bracelets are in this Spring - but seriously, who wants to pay a crazy amount for something you can make yourself in ten minutes, tops? All you need is some yarn and a crochet hook. Start out with a row of chain stitches - about 24 works for a normal wrist size - and then pick a stitch (I used half-double crochet) and make a second row. Keep crocheting until the cuff is as thick as you want it to be, and then weave the ends in. Ta-dah! For instructions on how to do the chain stich, half-couble crochet, and a couple more, check out http://crochet.about.com/

5. Change something in your room. Try putting new curtains up, or decorating your old ones with a fun pull (try a tie - click here to learn how to tie a knot you can use, just pretend the curtain is a shirt collar). Or move your bedside table to the other side, or switch the drawers in your dresser around. Believe it or not, tiny things like this can sort of activate your brain and make you think of new ideas.

Good luck surviving the last few weeks of cabin fever and have a beautiful Spring!
