The Horses in the Mountains

Chapter 1

          One fine, cool summer morning, young Thomas woke up from his slumber and sleepily got dressed and went downstairs and started to put his boots on. As he was getting his second boot on, his two older brothers, Tristan and Caleb, came out of the kitchen ready to go out and do the morning chores. Thomas fed the chickens while Caleb fed the horses and Tristan milked their milk-cow named Elsie. When Thomas finished giving the chickens their food, he went and collected the eggs. He took the eggs to the house and gave them to his mother who was waiting for him. As Thomas was taking off his boots, Caleb came rushing in with a worried expression on his face.

“Gina and Sonny are missing!” he exclaimed. Gina was Thomas’ favorite horse and Sonny was Tristan’s favorite.
